Week Twenty-Five

You’ve just met a stranger at a place you frequent. They tell you a bit about their life. Are you listening intently? Or are you waiting for a chance to talk about yourself? Describe how this makes you feel.

I enjoy listening to other people’s stories. I love hearing about their lives and all the cool things they get to do. I also love to connect with people, find things that are similar, and that can sometimes make it hard to listen intently.

If I notice something they are saying, say a name of someone I know, I latch onto it, thinking of how they could know this person, and sometimes it distracts me from actually listening to their words. Sometimes the pull is strong enough to interrupt them, but not usually. I will wait until a break in the conversation that isn’t super rude.

It’s a flaw. I like to talk. I have been working on listening, and I am proud to report that I’m getting better ❤
